Connect Stripe
Stripe: refunds, cancellations, failed payments, and sales too if you want. Kit's own Stripe app already records Stripe sales, so Checkout Sync starts with what it leaves out: refunds, cancellations and failed payments. You paste a restricted key and we add the webhook for you.
- In Stripe, open Developers → API keys and press Create restricted key.
- Name it Checkout Sync.
- Set these permissions and leave everything else on None:
Permission Access Why Customers Read To find the email behind a refund or cancellation Products Read To name the subscription that was canceled Webhook Endpoints Write To add (and later remove) our webhook - Create the key, copy it (it starts with
rk_live_) and paste it into your settings under Stripe.
What counts as what
- Canceled fires when a customer cancels (even if access runs to the end of the period) or when a subscription ends. It fires once per subscription.
- Payment failed fires once per failed renewal invoice, with
update_payment_urlset to Stripe's hosted invoice page, where they can pay with a new card. - Refunded fires for full and partial refunds.
Stripe sales too
Don't use Kit's Stripe app, or want Checkout Sync's tags, custom fields and Bought event for Stripe sales? Turn on Send Stripe sales to Kit too under your Stripe connection. Then paid one-off checkouts and every paid subscription invoice (first payment and renewals) become Kit purchases, and you can import past Stripe sales.
Before you switch it on, add these read permissions to your restricted key in Stripe (Developers → API keys, press the key, then Edit): Charges, Invoices, Checkout Sessions and Prices. We check the key, then add the sale events to our webhook. Switching it off removes them again.
Using test mode? Paste a test restricted key (rk_test_) as its own connection.
